Registration is on-line only and is limited to 15 participants, first come first served. The form will be available online at 9am April 2 using the 2026 Member Password which will be emailed to all paid-up Members on April 1.
Cost for Extension Trip: $150.00 per person, not including meals and accommodation which are on your own. Cost includes a contribution to the BCFO Conservation & Education Fund. Leader: Alan Burger: BCFO member, mostly retired research biologist and university prof. Experienced birder with considerable experience in leading birding trips.
Trip Overview: Day 1 (June 3)
- Meet in Merritt 0800 (Participants will likely stay the previous night in Merritt)
- Bring food & drinks for a picnic lunch.
- Hamilton Hill old road (Clay-coloured Sparrow, grassland birds, Swainson’s Hawk)
- Nicola Lake – check for possible Peregrine Falcon nest
- Pennask Lake Road to Douglas Lake loop (parts are on a rough road) – Lewis’s Woodpecker, Clay-coloured Sparrow, diverse shorebirds, Vesper Sparrow, Swainson’s Hawk, possible Golden Eagle, possible Bullock’s Oriole
- Night – Promontory Mt – look for Common Poorwill (possible Flammulated Owl & other owls)
Overnight in Merritt
Day 2 (June 4)
- Early morning – Lindley Creek – Midday Valley loop. Likely Williamson’s Sapsucker, 3 spp nuthatches, warblers, 2 spp bluebirds
- Late breakfast in Merritt
- Bring food & drinks for a picnic lunch.
- Merritt to Logan Lake via Mamit Lake – waterfowl
- Logan Lake marsh – waterfowl (Ruddy Duck etc.)
- Tunkwa Lake Prov Park for picnic lunch – waterfowl, 3 grebe spp, Wilson’s Phalarope and shorebirds
- Tunkwa to Savona – Look for American Three-toed Woodpecker and Black-backed Woodpecker
- Savona, Juniper Beach Park to Cache Creek – possible Golden Eagle
Overnight in Cache Creek
Day 3 (June 5)
- Cache Creek – Ashcroft area
- To Lillooet via Hwy 99 & Marble Canyon
- Lunch will be at a restaurant.
- Arrive Lillooet in afternoon
